Of all the rooms in the house, I think the laundry room is in greatest need of a serious facelift. It has old faux wood beadboard, horribly painted and poorly laid-out cupboards, and cold vinyl tiled floors. It is so chaotic and hodgepodge, there is never any desire to ever stay in here for long. However, being a space tucked in the deep bowels of the basement, it was a room that was low on my priority list.
But our dryer decided to die on us yesterday, and our washer is on the fritz too because its spin cycle was no longer draining as well as it should. we decided to replace both the washer and dryer for eco-friendlier machines (water and energy saving) figuring that it’ll save us money in the end. My brain immediately went ‘ding!’ and saw an opportunity to start the process into fixing up the space for a calmer, more harmonious vibe and on a budget.
I’d like to clean this space up and create a craft/sewing area:
- Paint the floor and walls
- Build a tall cabinet for luggage and other hard-to-store items beside the fridge
- Rip out the upper cabinets and replace with open shelving OR paint existing cabinets.
- Install drawers/cupboards and a countertop along the far wall for a craft and sewing area
I’ll start with the floor because it is the cheapest and most flexible (we have a belt sander and primer already at home, just need floor paint; I saw it done on viewalongtheway and want to try it here). Then we’ll take on each project after that as time and money allow 🙂 I’ll keep you posted!
